具体描述
This catalogue raisonne offers, apart from a critical introduction on the historical, religious and economic background of the era, a comprehensive survey of all accessible and authenticated works by Mignon. More than a hundred still life paintings are reproduced, most in color and in large-scale, and described according to the criteria of composition, color, and biographical details. Abraham Mignon ranks among the most important masters of Dutch still life painting, which experienced a revival in the second half of the seventeenth century. Famous in his lifetime, Mignon's works are still found in the most important museums in the world. His colorful and sumptuous portraits of flowers, fruit, and animals are meticulously depicted according to nature. His paintings depict not only earthly richness and beauty, but also allude to transience. This sense of the futility of vanity, originating from the Bible, can be detected in his entire work and still attracts admirers today. This is the first completely new and comprehensive catalogue raisonne based on the latest results of substantial research into Mignon's work.
