The F-15 Eagle is probably the most effective air-to-air combat aircraft in history, with 104 kills and no F-15's downed by enemy fire. Developed in response to the threat of the Soviet MiG-25 'Foxbat', it is an all-weather air-to-air fighter capable of deep interdiction missions, and has even recently been used to fire missiles to down satellites successfully!
