作者說，當她有什麼想法覺得對成人來說太難傳達時，就把它寫進童書裏，孩子總是可以接受奇怪的概念。雖然對我來說，這本書的概念並不難也不新，但在1962年就不同瞭吧。這書不太好玩，要傳達的東西太重太玄瞭。
