两个印象深刻的点，一是Knight对自己对其他作家的苛刻评价的驳诘，二是书中读者对Knight作品的庸俗解读。这两点加起来就成为了1939年纳博科夫作品中难以排解的孤独。庆幸他一直在坚持，他不曾为了迎合大众而放弃文字之美。那些对风格与题材戏仿，蝴蝶棋局宝石的意象，还有贯穿全文的shadow and shade都成为了超越时代的心领神会。
