When early Christians began to study the Bible, and to write their own history and that of the Jews whom they claimed to supersede, they used scholarly methods invented by the librarians and literary critics of Hellenistic Alexandria. But Origen and Eusebius, two scholars of late Roman Caesarea, produced new kinds of books, in which parallel columns made possible critical comparisons previously unenvisioned.

只看了Origen部分。前面讲了新柏拉图主义哲学家，如Ammonius, Plotinus, Porphyry、他们的哲学倾向和著述偏好，点出Origen和当时哲学传统关系。接下去是六种经文和参的文本来源、重建、佐证，可以作为不错的参考书。用得着Eusebius的时候再看后边的。

被名字砸晕的作品……重点看Origen（这是当然）也看了看Eusebius……第一章非常漂亮，Porphyry、Philodemus、Origen的图书馆，考证论说都十分扎实，硬货满满，果然不是Grafton写的（不是黑）……第二章技术性强比较枯燥，图书史、Biblical Philology和Origen研究者之外的人恐怕难读；第三、四章不愧Grafton风格，技术性趣味性俱佳，书籍史和政治史以及宗教的融合在Eusebius和Costantino上充分展现。结论落在Caesarea上略显保守，可能是Williams的谨慎风格吧……值得移译，不过我可是没这能力
