This book is intellectually crucial to Lewis' conversion, as Lewis mentioned it in his autobiography. You need some historical background in order to understand C's writing. More or less, the book is a critical response to evolution and disregard of the historical credibility of the gospel. C's writing can be dense, but is full of insights.
