Eva & Adele have achieved a certain notoriety on the contemporary art scene: the artists appear at museum openings and art exhibitions around the world dressed in identical women’s clothing, with shaven heads and glittery make-up. Posing as human exhibits, these self-proclaimed ‘hermaphrodite twins from the future’ set out to challenge our ideas about art, gender and sexual identity. This superbly produced book presents the striking photographs, sensuous oil paintings and intricate drawings created by Eva & Adele alongside their extraordinary ‘living art’ performances. Essays trace the development of identity in the couple’s work since the late 1980s, and are accompanied by an interview with the artists about their unique approach to fusing art with life.
