Are there connections amongst the cases? There are indeed--by way of Lansley s former henchman Donald Bartlett, who s just been released from prison. . . and by way of the missing Charles Crane s elusive partner Peter Stonier. And hero Ward eventually makes them, with some help from client Stevens. But they re not compelling enough to lift this story above its dully familiar characters and heavy air of contrivance.??
