James Edward Oberg (born November 7, 1944) (often known as Jim Oberg) is an American space journalist and historian, regarded as an expert on the Russian space program.
We are standing at the threshold of a new era of life on Earth, when permanently occupied space stations mean that life is no longer re stricted to this planet. How will men and women aboard such orbital outposts communicate with one another? How will their speech and gestures differ from those on Earth? How will they experience time? How will their bodies and their children s bodies change and evolve in space? How will they view their old homeland, Earth? Pioneering Space takes amateur spacefarers on a flight into the future, where they can experience spacelife with all its emotions,
terrors and surprises as perceived and interpreted by those who have been there. A different kind of space book, it is for lovers of science fiction and science fact, unique, as Isaac Asimov points out in his Foreword, because of its combination of a human perspective on space exploration-- past, present and future--with all the latest advances in space technology. Pioneering Space shows how we have already begun to be changed as a species by space travel and how we will be changed in the future--presenting a composite portrait from the views of real space pioneers, psychologists, philosophers, engineers
