Long lost in the shadows of art history, though beloved both with a wink and with whole heart by millions, black velvet paintings are one of the more popular and enduring art mediums in the world. "Black Velvet Masterpieces" celebrates the best/worst of this amazing artform, drawing from the unique collection of the only musuem of its kind in the world, the Velveteria Museum of black velvet paintings in Portland, Oregon, home to more than 1,200 pieces. The book will feature some 200 paintings, an interesting (and groundbreaking!) short history of black velvet painting, the story of the authors meeting and opening the Velveteria and their adventures buying velvet paintings on the road, a short primer on how to paint on black velvet, and then chapters divided galleries of paintings.
