差，而且是非常差，僅僅比skeleton in the clock強那麼一點點。一位常年宅在傢裏的老婦人誤將銻粉當成瀉鹽服下，導緻中毒身亡，傢中女管傢被起訴謀殺。然後一場還算可以的法庭辯論結束後，管傢被證明無罪，而此時另一位男子被發現銻中毒死亡，現場為不可能犯罪。前30%情節比較緊湊，後續就完全都是灌水灌水灌水，看著看著都忘瞭這個案子瞭，而且本書的絕對主角是一名菲洛·萬斯式的嘴力勞動者，非常之令人討厭（我想我理解瞭S.T.喬希的評價），最後扯瞭108000裏後迴到案件，給齣瞭一個極其無聊的解答，全書完結。這本書挺長的，而且菲爾博士是絕對的醬油角色，除非死忠粉否則不建議閱讀。

这本是卡尔1949年的作品，属于Dr.Fell系列，但Fell在其中的出场戏份不多，主要作用是介绍撒旦崇拜的知识……故事主角是律师Patrick Bulter，推理部分基本也由其完成。Patrick Bulter还在1956年的Patrick Butler for the Defence 一书（非Dr.Fell和HM系列）中担任了主角。故事...
