Teh Color Purple is a classic. With over a million copies sold in the UK alone, it is hailed as one the all-time "greats" of literature, inspiring generations of readers.
Set in the deep American South between the wars, it is the tale of Celie, a young Black girl born into poverty and segregation. Raped repeatedly by the man she calls "father", she has two children taken away from her, is separated from her beloved sister Nettie, and is trapped into an ugly marriage. But then she meets the glamorous Shug Avery, singer and magic-maker -- a woman who has taken charge of her own destiny. Gradually Celie discovers the power and joy of her own spirit, freeing herself from her past and reuniting her with those she loves.
评分看原版的时候因为有些意思不太确定就翻着翻译的对着看 不看还好,一对比发现作者删节了挺多内容,比如开篇的原文first he put his thing up against my hip and sort of wiggle it around...
Celie asked for a purple skirt the first time someone asked her to choose. And finally she owned a room purple, her own. Life played a joke on her. But she got through with God and her beloved ones. This book got me see the other side of black people's lives and let me know that hatred does no good but love brings all peace and hope.
