The new edition of Civil Aircraft Markings has been fully revised to include the huge number of changes that have affected registrations of civil aircraft in Britain over the past 12 months. Fully comprehensive, the book also includes microlights, toy balloons, radio frequencies, airline flight codes and much else. Apart from featuring those civil aircraft registered in Britain, the books also includes the registrations of all civil airliners likely to be seen at British airports. For more than 50 years, Civil Aircraft Markings has been the most widely respected and authoritative guide to those aircraft on the British register. Over the years the content has expanded in line with the growth of the aviation business and in the greater accessibility of light aircraft and other forms of flying (such as microlights). The past year has seen considerable change in the aviation industry. Passenger levels have grown significantly, returning to levels last seen before the terrorist attacks of 11 September 2001, but aviation profitability remains weak as higher fuel charges impact on finances and the continuing rise of the budget airlines threatens margins. The long-anticipated move towards European integration started with the merger of KLM and Air France, although both airlines retain their separate identities at present, and this trend will undoubtedly continue as more flag-carriers face economic reality. Despite the gloom, however, airlines continue to invest significantly in new aircraft and, with the forthcoming launch of new airliners from both Airbus and Boeing, this investment will continue. All these changes and numerous more are recorded in the 2005 edition of Civil Aircraft Markings.
