Citizenship in an Enlarging Europe considers the impact of economic, political and social transformation in Central and Eastern Europe in the context of EU enlargement. The author uses the lens of gender to examine the processes of democratization, marketization and nationalism. Her enquiry into the relevance of citizenship to the quest for gender equitable societies investigates mainstream politics versus civil society initiatives as routes to empowerment and participation. She critiques the increasing public-private divide and analyzes the influence of the neo-liberal market model and its gendered media representations.
