Not quite well-written, and not a fav. But you can see this as a hard coming-of-age story. Missionary, mercenary and madman in the 'golden age' for humanitarian workers: Khmer Rouge, black hawk down, coup in Haiti, post-genocide Rwanda, Srebrenica. Humanity, conscience, vulnerability, doubt, rage, everything on verge of emergency.
