The Myth of Continents sheds new light on how our metageographical assumptions grew out of cultural concepts: how the first continental divisions developed from classical times; how the Urals became the division between the so-called continents of Europe and Asia; how countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan recently shifted macroregions in the general consciousness. This extremely readable and thought-provoking analysis also explores the ways that new economic regions, the end of the cold war, and the proliferation of communication technologies change our understanding of the world. 马丁•E. 刘易士（Martin W. 脑洞大开的一本书。之前从来没有想过的问题，欧洲中心论和殖民时代的思想一直在各个方面影响着我们。没有给五星是老师的一句话，美国南部拥有着黑人和西班牙裔文化，为啥不不划分在拉丁美洲范围内？而把中国割舍成三瓣？

非常好的一本分析continents, nation-state, east-west被地理建构的历史。书中引用的William Cronon的关于post-structuralism的话解释了我多年来心头的疑问：“social constructionism tells us something important about the world, but it does not tell us everything, for the redoubt of realism is not quite so ruined as [the postmodernists] would have us believe.”
