The book includes Cynthia Polksy's best paintings and works on paper, each of which is illustrated in full colour, either as a one-page illustration or as a double-page spread. An illuminating introductory essay by Karen Wilkin discussed the artist's own observations about her works which are generally conceived as landscapes 'in which the observer can locate himself'. Wilkin also examines the emotional range of Polsky's paintings which are 'lush, seductive, reticent, explosive, slow, tender, aggressive, gorgeous, austere', and they way in which elusively defined colour masses are used to convey these different moods.
