School is over and Wesley needs a summer project. Having learned that every civilization has a staple food crop, he decides to plant a garden and start his own—civilization, that is. He turns over a plot of earth in his yard, and plants begin to grow. Soon they tower above him and bear a curious-looking fruit. As Wesley experiments, he discovers that the plant will provide food, clothing, shelter, and even recreation. 凯文·霍克斯（Kevin Hawkes），美国知名童书作家及插画家。从小喜欢画画、玩黏土，大学主修插画。《威斯利王国》一书让他想起儿时钟爱的读物《鲁滨孙漂流记》。他认为威斯利创造了许多独特的事物以及在生活上自给自足，比鲁滨孙更胜一筹。凯文·霍克斯目前和家人住在美国缅因州沿岸的一个小岛上。
