著者简介

贝塔·哈德（1891-1976）和埃尔默·哈德（1889-1973）是一对夫妇。他们一生既为儿童画插画，也创作故事，到1964年退休，他们一共完成了七十多本书。在这些作品里，最有名的就是这部获得1949年凯迪克金奖的作品--《大雪》。

哈德夫妇曾为许多杂志创作，如好管家杂志（Good Housekeeping）的儿童专栏、美开乐杂志（McCall's）、画报评论（Pictorial Review）、基督教科学箴言报（The Christian Science Monitor）等。他们提供的图片和剪贴画以儿童身着民族服装为显著特色。1926年，哈德夫妇和麦克米伦签订了一系列童书合同。从此以后，他们开始自己创作故事。随着纷纷而至的创作邀约，他们又将工作扩展到插画、写作、出版等各个方面。著名作家约翰·斯坦贝克曾邀请埃尔默为他最重要的小说《愤怒的葡萄》（1939）制作封面。后来，斯坦贝克的另外两本书--《伊甸园之东》（1952）和《烦恼的冬天》（1961）的封面也是由他们制作的。
