Two new additions to the popular Our Wild World series cover a pair of nature's most fascinating arctic animals. There are 33 species of seals, including sea lions and walruses, and they live all over the world. Because seals can store oxygen in their muscles, they can dive deep and stay underwater for an average of 20 minutes at a time. One seal was recorded diving underwater for two hours and reached a depth of 5,500 feet Polar Bears are the largest members of the bear family. Males can stand up to 10 feet tall, and can weigh more than 1,000 pounds. Despite their massive size, polar bears are also very good swimmers and can swim at a speed of 6 miles per hour, and can dive as deep as 15 feet.Seals and Polar Bears deliver an in-depth look at these amazing animals, while remaining accessible to children. Perfect for older kids seeking information for report writing, and as an introduction to wildlife for new readers.
