1949年的Caldecott medal book，講動物怎麼過鼕，更像本很普通的科普書。感覺medal book也不是每本都好啊，尤其是早年的，不知道是為什麼評上奬的

它的美在於細節，耐人尋味的細節。看這一片片美麗而不重樣的雪花，又彆緻又靜謐。再看光是鼠類動物就一一講到瞭土拔鼠、花栗鼠、兩種不同的林鼠，還有田鼠和鼴鼠。作者曾經在林中的小木屋過鼕，所寫所畫皆有切身感受，不同的小鼠形態、神情、習性各異，已經非常精彩瞭；寫到鼴鼠不用遷徙過鼕，可以大嚼花園裏的球根，更有一份活靈活現的可愛。而書裏講到的動物遠比小鼠多得多……非常緩慢非常安靜的一本書，似乎能聞到冰雪的氣息，聽到雪落的聲音。
