一场诱惑，无关乎爱情，是两个男人之间的交易，一个中年美国男人对欧洲的陶醉，不过他作为文学教授一点也不节制，低贱又坦率。十九世纪亨利詹姆斯的小说情节放在现在的语境下也要不一样了，美国知识分子不再着迷于欧洲的历史和丰厚了，于是小说将欧洲所有的破败和幽深都凝聚在mitko身上了。所有关于爱的探索好似在呈现社会，可美国人并没有拯救欧洲青年的决心，大篇幅美国中年男人的回忆，关于保加利亚，关于mitko，关于自己身份的，都是为了感受幸福或不幸，而不是理解和救赎。那种爱的果敢和必然在亨利詹姆斯写的伊莎贝尔可见一斑，是那种壮丽的悲剧精神再也不在了。也许是这个世纪的欧洲对于另一个大陆的人确实祛魅了。又或许因为两人是男性，又以性作为一切的张力，那些关于爱的执念只是快感，只是由于禁忌时而被冲破才迸发出来的激情。

文笔是有的，第二章只一段也是服气，只是觉得好玩，确实一口气读完，扩张interiority做的还不错，人物性格太线性，总之读着玩玩还是不错的

Soaked in melancholy. 怎么说呢，看得心情是复杂的，这种很难抽离的反复感看得让人心碎的同时又无比的焦心。作为debut novel，可能确实值得肯定。但文体很流俗，读起来一点都不流畅而且还让人觉得过分矫情。不舒服是第一感觉，好在篇幅不长。不过第二部分不分段，我当时都想弃读了！但同样间接表达了对那段记忆作者想要表达的复杂情绪吧。最后兜兜转转，更多是一种对于Bulgaria衰败感的批判，Mitko这样的人物也只能是小小社会的一个缩影了吧。
