It relates the growing disillusionment of a politically-committed tutor who is attached to the household of a philistine and reactionary country gentleman. His revulsion at the behaviour of his employers and their friends leads him to the brink of madness, from which he is saved only by his resolve to contribute to the movement for social revolution. 和早期与Isherwood合写的The Mortmere Stories完全不同，这篇政治色彩浓厚。故事是看上去并没有值得一书的情节但读起来很流畅的散文小说，所以不难理解Stephen Spender政治理念和他完全不同却还是对文章本身大加赞扬。 Tutor并担心的事情并不会发生，Upward依然保持了并写出这样力量与美同在的文章……【为毛我买的封面不一样TAT……感觉纸也和之前买的Enitharmon的书不同
