The philosopher Philo was born about 20 BCE to a prominent Jewish family in Alexandria, the chief home of the Jewish Diaspora as well as the chief center of Hellenistic culture; he was trained in Greek as well as Jewish learning. Read Life of Moses. Philo's Stoic Moses. A good Hellenistic account of Moses, helpful for one to understand the line in Stephen's speech "Moses was instructed in all the wisdom of the Egyptians, and he was mighty in his words and deeds." Paideia is significantly important.
