一本很美妙的小书。以1851年6月21日，在伦敦国际象棋锦标赛上国际象棋大师安德森(Adolf Anderssen)和吉塞芮茨基(LionelKieseritzky)的不朽对局作为线索，讲述了象棋的历史。以开局、中局、残局比拟象棋的发展（起源、传播、最后被“人工智能”所打败）。这位作者戴维·申克(David Shenk)，在20年前就写出过对我们当代信息泛滥时代的预言性质的作品 Data Smog，中译《信息烟尘》，遗憾没有再版。之所以对胃口，是因为它把象棋提升到了更多哲思的层面。引言便是以“杜尚弃艺术从象棋”而进入的。当然最重要的还是The Immortal Game，是在170年之后，依旧拍案叫绝的艺术品。
