The Translator: Ray La Fontaine was born in New York City to Puerto Rican parents of French and Spanisch descent. He has taught English literature at four universities, produced award-winning documentaries nationally broadcast on PBS, and written front-page investigative articles for major newspapers. His translation of Tirant lo Blanc, the first English rendering of the Catalan classic, was completed on a dissertation-year fellowship at Auburn University in 1974.
