上世紀就有人在巧閤和實話間遊刃有餘瞭。

容易讀的故事，心理描寫很細緻，不過情節安排沒有電影編劇厲害瞭～小說前半段對Tom形象的鋪墊很用心，後半段欠缺瞭些，Marge和老Greenleaf的形象都有些不夠豐滿。Tom對Dickie的感情及謀殺動機也處理得略嫌不夠。這些方麵電影改編做得更好。

有黑色犯罪小說的一切特點，但又不止於黑色犯罪類型。可以看作犯罪加強版和遊記版的《罪與罰》。兩部作品主人公的超人理論和承受罪惡時的心理活動異麯同工。相比《罪與罰》的知識分子氣質和信仰主題，瑞普利中的欲望更為赤裸，更加肆無忌憚，侵略性更強，或許也更接近人的本真狀態。
