波頓的電影大概是4年前看的，整個過程昏昏欲睡，直到最後父親的葬禮上看到那些故事裏的“巨人”、“巫婆”、“連體姐妹”，像兒子一樣突然理解瞭父親和他的故事。周末花5個小時兩口氣讀完瞭英文版，沒想到竟會被這麼簡單的文字拽著一直讀下去。書裏沒有波頓的夢幻，在平實中有種樸實而浪漫的憂傷：一個愛講故事而且隻講故事的男人一生的故事。"Remembering a man's stories makes him immortal. "與父親一直有隔閡的兒子最終領悟瞭父親用一生的故事想要教給他的事，送走瞭變成大魚的父親。小說是關於父親的故事，而電影改編的巧妙在於把書裏隱含的不可靠敘述者“我”拉進瞭現實的可靠敘述層麵，實的更實，虛的更虛，成為一個關於故事的故事。（影視短評的限定字數為什麼少那麼多……）

因為一切都是兒子的轉述和迴憶，所以不管Edward Bloom是怎樣樂觀無憂的一個人，這部書的整體氣氛仍然是兒子對父親的留戀，不捨和憂傷。那些父親曾經經曆的奇聞曆險，其實都是為瞭襯托他在臨死前不住的“我是不是一個稱職的父親”的追問

几年前看蒂姆波顿的《大鱼》，觉得故事很童话，要讲的东西也很有哲理，但就是整个叙述过程有些枯燥。今天逐字地看完了这本原著，居然快要掉下眼泪。从看了电影那会儿起，我就知道这个故事很伟大，讲得非常棒，而里面最棒的，则是垂死的父亲对着儿子讲那些明明不切实际的故事...
