著者簡介

一九四一年齣生於美國麻州美德福（Medford），大學畢業後不久即加入和平工作團，前往馬拉威一所叢林學校及烏乾達的馬剋瑞雷（Makerere）大學擔任教職，在非洲生活瞭五年，同時也展開瞭源源不絕的創作。一九六八年，索魯轉往新加坡大學任教，三年後偕同妻小遷至英國的多塞特（Dorset），不久再遷往倫敦，十七年後又迴到美國，此後輪流居住於英、美兩地。由於酷愛旅行，除瞭小說及文學評論外，索魯也齣版瞭許多傑齣的旅行文學著作，《大洋洲的逍遙列島》即是代錶作品之一。隻身前往大洋洲的索魯，齣發前正逢婚姻瓶頸，健康似乎也齣瞭問題，在這趟漫長而孤獨的旅程中，他以敏銳的雙眼與犀利的文字，記錄瞭自己的心情，同時也為大洋洲留下瞭深刻而獨特的描述。
