书末有莱维晚年（应该是吧，提到了1985年的事）写的《答读者问》，是很好的补充。回答了最常见的几个问题：为什么不恨德国人？普通德国人知道吗？苏联的邪恶和纳粹有何分别？纳粹和希特勒能否被理解？集中营对他的长远影响，等等。

总觉得没有primo levi写的另一本the drowned and the saved好。

赶在都柏林时间12.31之前读完，看过牛鬼蛇神录再看这本，杨小凯先生坐牢还是比纳粹时期犹太人要强一些的...至少劳动强度和饥饿问题上没那么惨，小凯先生还能在牢里学数学学英语“新来的人不明白人会精力衰竭而死但不会被皮鞭鞭打而死”犹太人确实是被animalize；两边都有完全的uncertainty，集中营里的犹太人永远不知道自己是被挑到左边还是右边，中国的是不知道什么时候自己就被某个理由革命了；两边都会因为自己是知识分子得到好处；两边都提到在自己最窘迫的时候见到女人；两边都记录了形形色色的狱友。有意思的是中国特色偷偷告密rat，这基本上是现代中国政治实践传统了。

读了if this is a man的大部分。比起通常的奥斯维辛文学，除了展现个性的泯灭和暧昧的规则等常规逻辑，最大的新意是提供了一份类目清晰的《奥斯维辛生存指南》和详细的案例分析。其核心在于对人性的追问。奥斯维辛不仅从肉体上摧毁了无数人，它的运作机制所产出的幸存者，也不断挑战着人类对于文明的信心。一个人是否能在保持基本道德感的情况下，走出奥斯维辛？1987年，莱维从住所三楼的阳台一跃而下。
