Samuel Dashiell Hammett was an American author of hardboiled detective novels and short stories. Among the enduring characters he created are Sam Spade (The Maltese Falcon), Nick and Nora Charles (The Thin Man), and the Continental Op (Red Harvest and The Dain Curse). In addition to the significant influence his novels and stories had on film, Hammett "is now widely regarded as one of the finest mystery writers of all time" and was called, in his obituary in the New York Times, "the dean of the... 'hard-boiled' school of detective fiction."

Women are all innate actress, wearing their pretty faces, their doey eyes, their appealing tears as costumes.They conquer, they wi, they are sure about themselves. But however excellent is the acting, it can never beat a man with a heart like stone.
评分It was love at the first chapter. Dashiell, the author, is not only a detective, but also a writer and a poet. The way he composed, paused, and waved the story will draw you into a dazzling puzzle. However, as the story grows, things could get out of control, when the protagonist is clearly the smartest person in the book. It gets boring.
