There was a time when I could recite most of the first page because there was no way of telling what kind of book I was reading other than quoting its own words.

上節課結束時老師讓每人從這本書中選一段，把它的題目和可以解讀的角度寫在卡片上匿名上交。完全讀不懂的我慌忙找瞭段短的，隨便寫瞭個角度，結果今天被當作範本來討論。當然討論完我也不懂它在講什麼以及大傢討論瞭什麼，隻不過在現代主義課上獲得瞭一次後現代主義體驗。

psychedelic modernism & formalism par excellence，大概能代錶High Modernism的實驗精神，但Keene所說的“10-20年代的文學成就最終是屬於喬伊斯和普魯斯特而非斯坦因和路易阿拉貢的”也許不無道理，可能spectacular failure仍是最恰切的形容。和二十多年後FW做的事相似而不同，Stein沒有艾略特和喬伊斯的encylopedist野心，語言實驗主要關注語法，詞匯反而相當簡約。想讀Autobiography of ABT
