The book traces the history eunuchism from its bvery early days until november 5, 1924. when the system was finally banned and hundreds of eunuchs, "crying pitifully in high-pitched feminine voices," were expelled from Tzu Chin (Guzheng) Palace, thus ending a system that had endured over 2,000 years and through 25 dynasties.
