I don't think the end is hurried. After all, It is the hopeless and anxiety life which Bowling returned to. The book itself is an eulogy to the bucolic age named "before the war" --- or, antebellum ---, however, shattered by Capitalism, Consumerism and Fascism. Can't help bursting into tears while the sentimental nostalgia was presented.
