When a miller leaves his son nothing but a cat, the young man's prospects don't look promising. But Puss has an outrageous plan for turning her master from pauper to prince. Make way for the Marquis of Carabas—and the wiliest, boldest, most enterprising cat of them all!
To illustrate this retelling of a Charles Perrault fairy tale, Steve Light made his own hand-painted patterned papers, inspired by French artist Jean-Honoré Fragonard and the Rococo movement, to create brilliant paper-and-fabric collages for his picture book debut.
